Pääkirjoitus: Näyttelyn esittely

Järjestimme loppuvuodesta 2024 näyttelyn Helsingissä Kulttuurikeskus Stoassa. Tämä julkaisu on näyttelyn ja siihen liittyvien tapahtumien dokumentaatio.

Saimme loppukeväästä 2024 Stoalta kutsun ottaa heidän galleriatilansa haltuun. Tämä tarjosi meille ainutlaatuisen mahdollisuuden syventyä kodin teemaan, jota olimme jo ennestään pohtineet. Järjestimme avoimen haun taiteilijoille ja kutsuimme eri kulttuurialan toimijoita luomaan tapahtumia teeman ympärille. Lopputuloksena oli kuuden viikon mittainen kokonaisuus, joka sisälsi yhdeksän taiteilijan näyttelyn ja kahdeksan tapahtumaa. Näyttely ja tapahtumat toteutuivat 21.11.-31.12.2024.

Näyttely tutki kodin merkitystä monella tasolla – fyysisenä, henkisenä ja tunteellisena tilana. Näyttelymme kutsui pohtimaan, mitä koti merkitsee ja kuinka se muuttuu ajan, kokemusten ja ihmisten myötä. Näyttelyn lisäksi järjestimme joka viikko tapahtumia galleriatilassa.

“Jokainen kantaa mukanaan kotiaan – jotain henkilökohtaista ja näkymätöntä, jota harvoin jaetaan tai puetaan sanoiksi. Tämä näyttely on kuin yhteinen olohuone, jossa tuo näkymätön saa tulla näkyväksi. Olemme luoneet Stoan galleriaan tutunomaisen tilan, joka kutsuu pysähtymään monien eri kotien äärelle. Taiteilijat ovat tuoneet näyttelyyn monenlaisia ilmauksia kodista, ääniteoksista pronssiveistoksiin. Teokset ilmentävät hyvin sitä, kuinka koti voi olla yhtä aikaa intiimi, henkilökohtainen kokemus ja toisaalta syvästi universaali aihe, johon jokainen voi samaistua omalla tavallaan”, kommentoi näyttelyn kuraattori Farhia Omer.

Haluamme kiittää näyttelyn mahdollistamisesta ja yhteistyöstä Stoaa ja kulttuurituottaja Sanna Nuutista, työpajojen ja tapahtumien järjestäjiä AIDA Impactia, Alice Jäskeä, KAMPAa, Muudia, POC-lukupiiriä, Ritni Ráste Pieskiä, Siskonpedissä-projektia, Sumudia ja Yalla Collectivea.

In late 2024, we organised an exhibition in Helsinki at the Cultural Centre Stoa. This publication is a documentation of the exhibition and related events.

In late spring 2024, we received an invitation from Stoa to take over their gallery space. This gave us a unique opportunity to delve into a theme of home that we had already been thinking about. We held an open call for artists and invited different cultural actors to create events around the theme. The result was a six-week-long package of nine artists' exhibitions and eight events. The exhibition and events took place from 21 November to 31 December 2024.

The exhibition explored the meaning of home on many levels - as a physical, mental and emotional space. Our exhibition invited us to reflect on what home means and how it changes with time, experiences and people. In addition to the exhibition, we organised events every week in the gallery space.

"Everyone carries their home with them - something personal and invisible that is rarely shared or put into words. This exhibition is like a shared living room where that invisible is allowed to become visible. We have created a familiar space in Stoa's gallery that invites us to stop by many different homes. Artists have brought to the exhibition a wide range of expressions of home, from sound works to bronze sculptures. The works reflect how home can be both an intimate, personal experience and a deeply universal subject that everyone can identify with in their own way," said Farhia Omer, the exhibition's curator.

We want to thank Stoa and cultural producer Sanna Nuutinen for making the exhibition possible and for their collaboration. We also extend our gratitude to the organisers of the workshops and events: AIDA Impact, Alice Jäske, KAMPA, Muudi, POC-lukupiiri, Ritni Ráste Pieski, Siskonpedissä, Sumud and Yalla Collective.
